Once students have practiced video analysis skills, a series of video-based learning activities and assignments can be structured as a cycle of learning to move students through the ITF toward improving specific teaching practices. Starting with a focus on a specific evidence-based competency, faculty guide students to first learn about the competency.

Note that while this cycle of learning starts with Gain knowledge about a new practice and the Know section of the ITF, one could plan to enter the framework at any of the other areas depending on course goals and the characteristics and needs of students.

For example, when teaching experienced teachers in the field, faculty might consider starting with Reflect on your practice in order to support improvement and the Do section of the ITF as a way to assess their prior knowledge, which might then determine the content knowledge faculty choose to present.

Another example is guiding students to capture a baseline video at the beginning of the program or course and reflecting on their current level of practice before gaining more knowledge and improving.
