An important first step in making facilitation effective is to practice inclusive teaching. Video-embedded CORP groups need to exist within respectful and productive learning environments that support meaningful and accessible learning for all students across identities. CORP groups should leverage these diverse strengths.

Even courses focused on aspects of early care and education that do not include obviously controversial topics have the potential for negative interactions. As the field works toward advancing equity, we want to model and promote in our higher education courses the same types of inclusive and equitable teaching practices that we want our students to enact in early learning settings with colleagues and families.

Stereotypes and biases exist in society and each of us. Systems of power and privilege are at play in our courses, whether we acknowledge them or not. As we seek to advance equity, we should continue to engage in ongoing self-reflection of ourselves and our teaching. Seek ongoing ways to learn more about inclusive teaching through resources, professional development, instructor communities of practice, and gathering student feedback on strategies you try out.
