Setting Norms and Expectations for CORP Groups

Next, explain to students why the course will be using video-mediated CORP groups. Share with students the many ways this evidence-based method for their learning will support them as professionals and how it is a model for professional development they may consider using even after they graduate.

Students may have had negative group experiences in the past and may feel nervous about sharing videos of practice with peers. Share with them that many students have felt the same way, but ultimately found that participation in a video-mediated CORP group was invaluable to their learning and one of the most impactful aspects of their education. Reassure them that they will be supported throughout the process.

Start this support right away by facilitating a CORP discussion for them to get to know each other and offering the class and CORP groups the chance to establish ground rules and norms.

You may initially want to engage in that process as an entire class first. Have each group draft a final set of norms that they all agree on and make sure each member has a copy. Periodically ask the class to reflect on whether the agreed-upon norms are working, making adjustments if needed. At the end of the course, ask students to reflect on the experience.
